Joe Dolan at The Galtymore, Cricklewood, London It had been four long years since I’d seen a Joe Dolan Show; four years in which he’d not been so well and had a hip op. Although I’d not been able to get over to Ireland to see a show, several acquaintances had told me he was back as good as ever but... for some reason, I suppose I was still prepared for the light to be burning a little less brightly. I’d seriously feared I’d never see him perform again, going to Ireland so rarely myself. And I honestly never expected him to come over to this side of the Irish Sea again. I usually like to be right but for once I am delighted to be so wrong on so many counts!! There’s no doubt about it, he’s back and better than ever. His voice is good and strong, and his stamina is as enduring as his fans. The Galtymore in London was more than ready for him and I’m sure will be ready to welcome him back. |

Quite a few of the old regular numbers were out (have to say I mourn the loss of Disco 2000) and new ones in; good to hear Little Green Bag and I Feel Good, particularly. I can’t be the only fan to find that even if I don’t much care for a recording of a song, once I’ve heard it live it becomes a favourite. Joe was evidently staying in London for the Irish World newspaper awards. On Monday night he was presented with an Outstanding Contribution to Music award. And very well-deserved. Welcome back, Joe and long may you enjoy entertaining us. Your fans thank you for it.
